Royal House Antiques is delighted to offer for sale. Exceptionally rare and very fine circa 1760 Thomas Chippendale era George III mahogany crescent sideboard from The former Duke of Wellingtons home Athelhampton House in the Billiards room. This is a rare and substantial find; I have never seen a sideboard of the magnitude before and absolutely never seen a crescent moon shaped one. It was estate made especially for Athelhampton House; I have included a picture of the Billiards Room so you can see the piece in situs. The house has an amazing history, it is a 15.

Century Grade I listed Tudor manor, it has been described as one of England's most important Tudor manor houses. The attraction features well in the work of Thomas Hardy.

Athelhampton's former owners have included a Lord Mayor of London and a Duke of Wellington but it has been in the Cooke family since 1957. The house features in Hardy's poem The Dame of Athelhall and his short story The Waiting Supper. It was also the backdrop for the 1972 film, Sleuth, starring Laurence Olivier and Michael Caine, and the 2009 fantasy drama From Time to Time, starring Dame Maggie Smith and Hugh Bonneville.

The size of this piece really has to be seen to be believed, it is magnificent. The very far outer sections are double cupboards, the next row in on the left we find four single drawers, to the far right a large triple drawer and one single and in the middle one long single again. All drawers are curved to the front and sit perfectly inline. A number of original keys are present as are all the locks however none currently work. This piece has the original unrestored patina, there are chips and general ware marks all over as you would expect for a piece nearly 260 years old.

I can have it fully restored to showroom condition, for a price please ask. Please note all measurements are taken at the widest point, if you would like any additional or specific measurements please ask.
